Setting up Pay rules

We understand that you may need to pay your staff different rate depending on the type of employment, experience and responsibility, and also the time&date of the service. (e.g. Public Holiday)

Within TurnPoint, you can use Pay Rules feature to set different pay rate per Pay Level or Group, etc. In this article, we are going to check how to set up different pay rate using example of demo care staff who is Registered Nurse.

1. Ensure that care staff is assigned to right pay level and group

Pay rules will be linked to either Pay Level or Pay Group, so it is important to set this up prior to setting up pay rule. Go to care workers profile to review/edit them.

In this case, Cheryl is assigned to RN Pay Group.

When checking in Payroll export preview page, you can see that standard rate of $35.00 has been applied to this worker as there is no specific pay rule for RN added to the system yet.

2. Add pay rules with the correct condition
Locate Billing/Pay Rules under Other/Config menu. You can see list of all billing rules AND pay rules added to the system. Click Add new rule.
(If you want to check Pay rules only, click View Pay Rules Only)

Please fill out mandatory fields:

a. Rule Reference - this rule name will be displayed in your payroll export page

b. Public Holiday & Day Restriction - these fields are for setting up different rate for Sat, Sun, PH

c. Time From & To - this can be used for setting up different rate for evening and night

d. Priority - If there are multiple rules conflicting, the system will pick up the one with higher number. It is recommended to give higher priority for higher rate to avoid any chance to underpay

e. Rate Paid - this is where you set the pay rate

f. Pay Level or Group - this is where you link this pay rule to the certain level or group. In this example, we are setting up pay rule for staff who is in RN pay group, so select RN from drop down. 

f. Valid From & To - you can set valid period of this rule

Once completed, click ADD RULE.

3. Review payroll export
Once set up, always double check payroll export preview to ensure if the rule is applied as it should.

The applied rule will appear in orange highlight under rate field.
