Wrapper shifts are extended hourly blocks of time that can include multiple appointments within them. It won't cause any conflicts in your planner or block availability lookups (AV).
The intent of the wrapper shift is to assist schedulers in identifying shift types of workers - such as day shift or afternoon shift.
Prior to enabling and using Wrapper shifts, please make a dedicated service type set to pay type “Shift Pay”:
See sample in the weekly planner, under Barbara Falzon:
In this example, you can see Barbara has been scheduled for a shift at the RESPITE House 19 from 8am to 6pm and has 3 appointments within that period.
The payroll export should skip any consideration of the shifts contained inside a wrapper shift. Therefore, the worker will be paid for the entire shift regardless of appointments inside them.
How do I know what rate my workers are paid at?
To ensure seamless function of the wrapper shift, ensure the newly created service type is linked in pay rules. Instructions for this are linked here.
Ensure settings are as below:
- Rule Reference: A reference that is used for the payroll export (e.g. Day Shift Pay)
- Service type: the service type that is linked to the wrapper shift, in this case, Day Shift
- Rate paid: the pay rate you are paying your workers per hour
- Valid from: dates you want this to start and end
When exporting, you will see the name of the rule show up in orange.
